Skate Blog

After a very long winter, one of my favorite parks has opened for the season - Tribeca. I really like this bowl and was anxious to skate there after learning to carve a little bit better at the Autumn Bowl over the winter.

I arrived right at 11am when they opened and filled out a new waiver. I was a little nervous as I haven't skated in a few weeks because I was out of town and then sick with a cold. I also haven't been to this park since October of last year so I felt a little jittery.

I looked into the bowl and saw a small puddle. A skater a met a year ago Tamara brought over a broom and I offered to sweep out the puddle because she had injured her ankle. After a few good brush strokes the bowl was dry and we were skating. Sam showed up and introduced me to a new skater named Ian and we skated the mini ramp until I slammed after trying a 50-50.

It was a great day because I wasn't trying to prove anything or learn anything, I just wanted to skate. I think that is the approach I should take from now on - not to push it so hard and just be mellow and let my skills develop naturally. I am in no rush to be a pro skater and I certainly can't afford to get hurt with my family moving here in about a month. So much is about to change in my life and I am just trying to hang onto the stoke of skating. It gets hard sometimes when I am tired after work, but once I am there and skating everything seems to be ok. I just have to focus on that for now...

In an effort to skate more I took my BDS Flat Pig down to the East Village and visited some friends that live down there. I just switched the wheels over to some Sonic Red BDS Dub Cons. These wheels are much faster than the Purple Haze BDS Dub Cons I had on there previously but still can absorb the bumps. I watched the street skaters at Tompkins Square park but had no desire to try to ollie onto a rail. I just carved around the park and took in the nice weather. I realize my entries have been short lately but I am a busy dude! I will catch up and try to get more witty...
